Three Questions When Picking a Jeweler

You've decided that you want to add a new piece to your collection or maybe you've never bought jewelry before but a special someone has stolen your heart and it's time to take the next step and buy that beautiful diamond. Do not just run into the first jewelry store you see! Buying a diamond, especially an engagement ring, is a process that requires thought and research. Picking the right jeweler can be just as important as picking the right diamond. Here are three questions when picking a jeweler you should ask before making the big commitment.
How long has this jeweler been in business? If a jeweler has just opened their doors, you don't know how long those doors will stay open. A diamond is an investment but also requires cleaning and possibly maintenance down the line. If your jewelry store closes, you're out of luck. If you find a jewelry store that has been open for a while they're a safer bet. They are capable of doing business well and obviously treat their customers with reverence. Open doors are the first step in choosing any company to do business with.
How does this jeweler treat their customers? As stated above, customers are what keep the doors open so if you've found a long term jeweler, that's half the battle. With today's technology you can find customer reviews on just about anything. Take a look at the potential jeweler you have in mind and read up on them. If the majority of their reviews are negative, you just saved yourself a lot of time and hassle. Don't look in just one place though and read several reviews before making your decision. You have to keep in mind that not everyone will have a great experience every time. If you're not one for reading, go into the store yourself and just look around. Ask questions and see how the sales staff treats you. They should take care of you like you're buying out their inventory, even if you're just window shopping.
What kind of guarantee does this jeweler put on their product? If a business is proud of their product and stands behind it, they will guarantee it. For a jeweler, this can mean verifying the source of their diamonds, offering an automatic warranty on their diamonds or giving the option of adding additional coverage for your new treasure. If it's a onetime sale and they don't seem to think you'll need to come back for anything, do not buy from them. Jewelry is made to be worn and that's exactly what can happen, wear and tear. If your jeweler isn't interested in being a long term part of your purchase, they don't need to be a part of your purchase at all.
So, before you 'set things in stone' do your research and educate yourself on which company to buy from. Diamonds are something we all take pride in owning so you need to take pride in your jeweler. You'll be satisfied with your purchase, develop a long term relationship and feel at ease if you ever feel the need to buy another diamond.
